Young people are one of the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean’s priorities. She would like the institution that she represents to give them special focus. She wants them to know that their ideas count, as does their way of seeing and understanding the world.

That is why the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean decided to create urban arts forums to illustrate how young artists from all backgrounds use urban arts (graffiti, hip hop, spoken word, dance, etc.) to fight exclusion, violence and crime, and to make changes around them, in their neighbourhoods, cities and communities. These forums have taken place from one end of Canada to the other, as well as in Brazil and South Africa. They have resulted in new community initiatives, which, on more than one occasion, have encouraged entire communities to work together.

Forum des arts urbain

Dialogue avec des jeunes de quartiers défavorisés sur les façons d’utiliser l’art comme outil de changement dans leurs communautés. Huit Forums des arts urbains se sont tenus au cours du mandat du 27e gouverneur général du Canada.

Octobre 2007 — Ottawa : Forum jeunesse « Ultra-méga-giga : une mission capitale » 

La gouverneure générale reçoit 130 jeunes de 15 à 17 ans. Présentation de vidéos sur les thèmes de l’environnement, de la diversité culturelle et de la culture des jeunes.

Octobre 2007 — Commémoration du 100e anniversaire du mouvement mondial du scoutisme

La gouverneure générale accueille à Rideau Hall 150 jeunes associés au scoutisme.

Mars 2006 — Vancouver, Colombie-Britannique

Discussion avec des participants à la troisième édition annuelle du  Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneur Symposium (Symposium pour jeunes entrepreneurs autochtones) de l’ANSAF
